DSS Gives Sowore One-Week Ultimatum Over Anti-Tinubu Post

The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a one-week ultimatum to activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, demanding that he withdraw a social media post the agency described as false, malicious, and inciting.
In a letter dated September 7, 2025, the DSS accused Sowore of making criminal and derogatory remarks against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in an August 26, 2025 post on X (formerly Twitter).
Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), had described Tinubu as a criminal and accused him of lying to Nigerians after the President reportedly claimed during a trip to Brazil that corruption no longer exists under his administration.
The DSS, through its Director of Legal Services, Uwem Davies, said the statement was capable of sparking anger, public unrest, and even insurrection.
> “Your choice of words in describing the President are false, malicious, and capable of inciting public disturbance, disunity, and breakdown of law and order,” the agency said.
The security outfit ordered Sowore to:
Retract the statement on X with the same prominence as the original post.
Publish a public apology in at least two major national newspapers and two television stations with nationwide coverage.
