Katsina to Conduct Survey on Malnutrition

The Katsina State Government has begun a survey to find out the level of malnutrition across all 34 Local Government Areas of the state.
The Acting Governor, Faruq Lawal Jobe, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Tanimu Dutsinma, launched the survey on Tuesday in Katsina. He said the study will focus on children under five, household food security, and communities most affected by malnutrition.
According to him, the survey will help the government:
Identify communities facing malnutrition,
Assess household vulnerability to food insecurity,
Determine household expenditure and needs.
Jobe explained that the government is also working on long-term solutions. These include providing 400 new tractors to support mechanised farming, promoting livestock production, and giving farmers subsidised fertilisers to boost harvests.
He added that the survey will give the state accurate data to design effective policies that fight food insecurity, malnutrition, and poverty. It will also help the government track progress and measure the impact of its interventions.
Jobe noted that food insecurity and malnutrition still exist in some parts of the state, with surveys showing acute malnutrition rates as high as 17.5 per cent in the northern region.
