The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned its members against attacking Governor Biodun Oyebanji, warning that disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found guilty.

This comes after Governor Oyebanji alleged that some party members were among those recruited to launch coordinated media attacks against him.

In a statement issued on Friday in Ado Ekiti, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, claimed that over 150 individuals, including influential social media figures at the national level, had been paid to discredit the governor and other key party figures.

“The sponsors of this plot, sadly, are APC members determined to heat up the polity in a bid to score cheap political points,” Oyebode said. “Their plan includes spreading spurious allegations, forged documents, and AI-generated graphics to malign the governor and destabilise the party.”

He further alleged that the same group had recently orchestrated an online attack on President Bola Tinubu, citing the state of the Itawure-Aramoko-Igede road as a pretext.

According to Oyebode, huge sums of money, including foreign currency, were allegedly offered to the recruited social media attackers. He added that the government was making the revelations public to forestall unrest and unnecessary tension.

Reacting, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, urged party members to avoid actions capable of creating divisions within the party. He warned that the party would apply its constitutional provisions against those bent on undermining unity.

“We have been warning such members and will continue to do so. But if they persist, we will take appropriate action as allowed by the party machinery. Nobody should create cracks that outsiders can exploit,” Dipe said.
