Police Capture Wanted Kidnap Kingpin in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin, Okon Asuquo Udo, bringing an end to months of manhunt for the suspect.
Police spokesperson, Timfon John, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, noting that Udo, from Ube village in Okobo Local Government Area, was captured in his hometown following credible intelligence.
According to the command, Udo had been on the wanted list for his alleged role in several high-profile kidnappings. Investigations linked him directly to the abduction of a Paramount Ruler in October 2024 and the kidnap of an Executive Chairman’s wife in November 2024.
John further revealed that the suspect is also believed to have been involved in multiple other kidnapping operations across Oron, Mbo, and Okobo Local Government Areas.
“This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the command’s ongoing fight against violent crime,” the statement added.
The police assured residents that further investigations are ongoing and promised to intensify efforts in dismantling kidnapping networks in the state.
