APC’s Ikpea Wins Edo Central Senatorial By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Edo Central Senatorial by-election held on Saturday.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Kingsley Omo-Iwoze, announced the results in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area, on Sunday morning.
According to him, Ikpea polled 105,129 votes to defeat Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 15,146 votes.
> “Joseph Ikpea of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner of the election,” Omo-Iwoze stated.
In his acceptance speech, the senator-elect dedicated the victory to God and the people of Edo Central, noting that they had chosen “vision over sentiment, and progress over politics-as-usual.”
Ikpea pledged to work closely with Governor Monday Okpebholo, party stakeholders, and community leaders to deliver quality representation across the district. He also promised to prioritise infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and traditional institutions.
The seat became vacant after Okpebholo, who previously represented Edo Central in the Senate, was elected governor of Edo State.
