Motorcycle riders in Ogun State’s Obafemi-Owode Local Government have accused multiple transport unions of crippling their livelihoods through excessive fees and harassment.

Operators in Magboro, Mowe, Arepo, and nearby communities say they are forced to join several unions, each demanding daily levies and annual sticker payments — whether or not they work.

One rider, Eze Emeka, told PUNCH that yearly costs, including stickers and permits, now total ₦25,000–₦30,000, with overall contributions reaching nearly ₦200,000 annually. Despite these payments, riders say there are no visible benefits or facilities provided.

The unions mentioned include:

Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN)

Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ARMORAN)

Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO)

They appealed to the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, to intervene and curb what they describe as daily extortion.
