The Zamfara State House of Assembly has expressed strong dissatisfaction with Governor Dauda Lawal’s handling of the worsening insecurity in the state.

At its plenary on Tuesday, presided over by Speaker Bashar Gummi, lawmakers accused the governor of failing to visit or send government delegations to communities attacked by bandits, nor offering assistance to victims.

Moving a motion on the matter, Bashir Masama, member representing Bukkuyum North, praised the Federal Government’s efforts so far but lamented that four villages in his constituency—Adabka, Zauma, Gwashi, and others along the Mayanchi–Bukkuyum road—had suffered severe attacks, forcing residents to flee.

Supporting the motion, Bashir Zango of Bungudu West described parts of his local government, including Gidan Bugaje, Zaman Gida, Kukan Nine, and Gidan Dan-inna, as “war zones” where entering is akin to “committing suicide.”

House Minority Leader, Aliyu Kagara of Talata Mafara South, also listed the worst-hit villages in his area: Morai, Bobbo, Makera, Jangebe, Gwaram, and Ruwan Gizo.

The Assembly unanimously called on the Federal Government to take over and coordinate security operations in Zamfara to protect lives and property.
