Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has vowed to take legal action against the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over what he calls the “persecution” of Lagos-based corps member Ushie Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye.

Raye came into the spotlight in March after publicly criticising the current administration, accusing it of worsening Nigeria’s economic hardship.

Last week, she alleged in a viral video that NYSC withheld her discharge certificate in retaliation for her remarks against the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Responding on Sunday via a statement on X, NYSC said Raye’s service year was extended by two months for allegedly failing to attend April 2025 biometric clearance, as required by its bye-laws, insisting the decision was not politically motivated.

However, during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Effiong disputed NYSC’s explanation. He claimed Raye was present at the April clearance but was intentionally denied verification by officials in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
