Sowore Slams Police After Release from Detention

Human rights activist and African Action Congress 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was released on Friday night after spending more than 48 hours in police custody at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Sowore was arrested on Wednesday after honouring an invitation from the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit. According to the police, the arrest followed two petitions alleging the forgery of police documents and cyberbullying.
His lawyer, Tope Temokun, claimed on Thursday that Sowore was subjected to inhumane treatment and secretly moved to an undisclosed location, where he sustained physical injuries.
Upon his release, Sowore described the detention as “illegal and unjust,” stating in a Facebook post that “the Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement.”
