Licensed Medical Professionals in Nigeria Hit 66,241 in 2024 – Minister
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, has announced that the number of licensed medical and dental professionals in Nigeria rose to 66,241 in 2024, up from 64,949 in 2022.
Speaking at the 2025 Business Day Health Conference in Abuja, themed “Transforming Nigeria’s Healthcare Landscape”, Dr. Salako said the federal government is taking strategic steps to improve the health sector—not just as a service area, but as a key investment opportunity for national development.
He highlighted the Nigerian Health Sector Renewal Initiative (NHSRII), launched in December 2023, as the foundation for systemic reforms in healthcare delivery.
