Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has honoured Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, with a cash gift of N50 million and a three-bedroom bungalow in appreciation of his role in Nigeria’s victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The announcement was made public via a Facebook post by Fintiri’s aide, Pius Iliya, following a courtesy visit by Madugu to the Government House in Yola.

Madugu, a proud indigene of Adamawa State, was celebrated for leading the Super Falcons to secure their 10th WAFCON title, extending Nigeria’s record as the most successful women’s football team in Africa. The 2024 tournament was held in Morocco.

“Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on behalf of the Government and people of Adamawa State, has gifted Justin Pwanidi Madugu a three-bedroom bungalow and N50 million for guiding Nigeria to WAFCON victory,” the Facebook post read.

Photos shared on the governor’s official page showed Fintiri holding the gold medal won by the coach and his team in Morocco.

The reward adds to the national honours Madugu and the rest of the team received during a presidential reception in Abuja. Each player was awarded $100,000, while Madugu and other technical crew members got $50,000, three-bedroom apartments, and were conferred with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) honour by President Bola Tinubu.

The Super Falcons clinched the WAFCON title in a dramatic final, overcoming a 2–0 deficit to defeat host nation Morocco 3–2, thanks to goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini. They remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, scoring 10 goals and conceding only three.
