Makinde’s Ally, Seun Adelore, Resigns as PDP Chairman over “Injustice”

Seun Adelore, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State and a known loyalist of Governor Seyi Makinde, has announced his resignation from the party.

In his resignation letter obtained ,Adelore accused the party leadership of “deep-seated injustice, lack of reward for loyalty, and a growing departure from democratic principles.” He described the PDP in the state as being run “like a private enterprise” by a few select factions, undermining transparency and the collective spirit of party politics.

Sources within the party revealed. The that Adelore’s resignation was linked to the controversial adoption of Folajimi Oyekunle, Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Makinde, as the consensus candidate for the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election. Other aspirants reportedly withdrew their ambitions following a high-level meeting with Makinde and pledged support for Oyekunle.

The by-election became necessary following the death of Olaide Akinremi, a two-term member of the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress (APC), who passed away at 51 in July 2024 after a brief illness.

Adelore said his decision followed broad consultations with his political base across the state and reflected his commitment to integrity and democratic ideals.

> “The PDP in this state is increasingly being run like a private enterprise by select factions, undermining the collective spirit and transparency that should define party politics,” Adelore stated.
