The Rivers State Police Command has refuted allegations of attempting to cover up a reported assault case involving businessman Christian Maduba at the BlackBox nightclub in Port Harcourt.

The denial comes amid public outrage and widespread criticism on social media, where Nigerians accused the police of frustrating the investigation by altering the charges against the suspect.

Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko clarified in a statement that the case had been formally charged in court and was proceeding through proper legal channels, dismissing any suggestion of misconduct or foul play.

The alleged victims—Anthonia Okoye, Juliet Obasi, and Jennifer Nnochiri—had shared videos on social media last week detailing their ordeal. According to their accounts, Maduba, CEO of Ceemore Group of Companies, assaulted them at the club after one of them rejected his advances.

They claimed Maduba, accompanied by a mobile police officer, physically attacked them, causing serious injuries, including a broken head, lost tooth, and other bodily harm.
