Tinubu Has Final Say on Running Mate – APC’s Salihu Declares – Newstelly

Mustapha Salihu, the National Vice Chairman (North-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that President Bola Tinubu holds the exclusive constitutional power to choose his running mate for the 2027 general elections.

Salihu made this statement on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday, just two days after narrowly escaping a mob attack at the APC North-East stakeholders’ meeting in Gombe.

During the controversial event, tensions erupted after Salihu failed to mention Vice President Kashim Shettima in his endorsement of Tinubu’s second-term bid — a move that sparked outrage among party delegates and led to chaos on stage.

Clarifying his position, Salihu said:

> “There is no such thing as a joint ticket during party primaries. Only the presidential candidate emerges, and it is entirely his prerogative to choose a running mate after becoming the flagbearer.”
