Tensions are rising within Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid growing rumours that President Bola Tinubu may consider dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The speculation came to a head during the APC North-East stakeholders’ meeting in Gombe State on Sunday, where what was meant to be a routine show of party unity spiraled into chaos.

According to eyewitnesses, trouble began when Mustapha Salihu, APC National Vice Chairman (North-East), delivered a speech endorsing Tinubu for a second term — but failed to mention Vice President Shettima.

This noticeable omission infuriated many in attendance. A video from the event, now circulating widely on social media, shows delegates erupting into chants of “Shettima! Shettima!!”, demanding clarity and recognition for the vice president.
