Engonga was sacked after about 400 tapes with explicit content of his rendevous with high-profile women in Equatorial Guinea were discovered during an investigation.

Real Equatorial Guinea reported that President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo ordered his dismissal following the disclosure of the intimate videos.

Citing Decree No. 118/2024, dated 4 November, the newspaper said Engonga’s dismissal was based on alleged misconduct in office, alongside family and social behaviour deemed incompatible with public office.

Engonga’s travail began after videos containing his intimate moments with some VIP ladies and his cousins were leaked online.

The leaked videos have continued to generate controversy in the social media space.

Joining the list of those who have condemned Engonga is the First Lady of Equatorial Guinea, Constancia Mangue Obiang

The President’s wife expressed outrage over the scandal during a meeting with Prime Minister, Manuel Osa Nsue.

Mrs Obiang called for immediate government intervention to uphold the dignity of Equatoguinean women and protect their privacy in the digital age.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the First Lady’s Press Office stressed that while the government has advanced gender equality, proactive measures are essential—not only to respond to incidents like these but also to prevent them—to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all women.
