Lookman tipped for Atalanta Jan exit
Ademola Lookman could be on his way out of Atalanta during the January transfer window, with reports suggesting the Nigeria forward may be available for as little as €25m.
ESPN reports that several Premier League clubs have expressed strong interest in the 26-year-old, who is said to be seeking a “new challenge” despite being contracted to Atalanta until 2026.
Lookman, who has been in impressive form for the Serie A club, may be set to return to England’s top flight, where he previously played for Everton and Fulham.
His stock has risen dramatically following his heroics in last season’s UEFA Europa League final, where he netted a historic hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen to secure Atalanta’s first European silverware.
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini told Lookman he had made football history after the memorable performance, which the player described as “an amazing feeling.”
Lookman’s stellar performances have not gone unnoticed, as he was recently named the sole African nominee for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
The former Charlton Athletic graduate expressed disbelief at his nomination, stating, “I thought it was crazy when I saw my name in the 30 candidates for the Ballon d’Or.”
This season, Lookman has already notched three goals and provided as many assists across all competitions for Atalanta. His form has led to speculation that he could succeed Victor Osimhen as African Player of the Year.
The forward’s potential January move could see him return to the Premier League, where he first made his mark.
Lookman’s decision to represent Nigeria at the international level, despite growing up in London, has further endeared him to fans in his ancestral homeland.
As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Lookman’s next move, with Premier League clubs reportedly lining up for his signature.
