Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Y.D Ahmed, has announced that serving corps members will benefit from the ongoing negotiation for a new minimum wage.

The DG made this announcement on Saturday during his visit to the Ogun State NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu.

While addressing the 2,762 corps members undergoing the three-week orientation course, Brigadier-General Ahmed assured them that they would not be left out of the ongoing salary negotiations.

He commended the corps members for their participation in the orientation program and charged them to embrace the discipline and collectivist spirit instilled in the camp.

The NYSC boss warned corps members against posting unauthorized pictures of orientation camp activities on social media, citing that three corps members had already been decamped for violating this rule. He also cautioned them against embarking on unauthorized journeys, emphasizing the Scheme’s priority on ensuring their safe return to their homes and parents after the national service.

This announcement comes amidst the ongoing debate between organized labour and the Federal Government over the implementation of a new minimum wage for workers. While the tripartite committee recommended N62,000, the governors proposed N57,000 and organized labour insisted on N250,000.

The Federal Government had announced that President Bola Tinubu would engage in further consultations with governors and the private sector before deciding on the new minimum wage.
