While congratulating the singer alongside others, The Grammys said Burna Boy is ‘firmly in his imperial era”, with his various top collaborations.
According to the article, there is not a bigger star in Afrobeats or even the whole of Africa itself than Burna Boy.
“There’s not a bigger star in Afrobeats, or even the whole of Africa itself, than Burna Boy. He nabbed two consecutive Best Global Album GRAMMY nods for his albums Twice as Tall and African Giant, and he’s also collaborated with global stars such as Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber.
Recall that days back Burna Boy had angered many with his comment on Afrobeats in Nigeria.
The singer, in an interview, avowed that 90 percent of Afrobeat songs lack real-life experience and substance.
He explained further by saying that artists aren’t saying anything worthwhile as he took a swipe at them over their lyrics.
While receiving his award, his junior colleague Rema took a shot at him for his disrespectful statement.
He stated that no matter what Burna Boy calls Afrobeats, they would all meet at Afrobeats award shows.
The Mavins singer in an interview later spoke about his influence in the music industry, stating that no one can deny that he has impacted Afrobeats on a global scale.
Rema couldn’t be wrong as the singer has put Nigerian on a big map. From performing in India to his top charting songs and making history as the first artist to perform at the Ballon d’Or award.
