Ondo Commissioner hit with Chair over palliatives distribution
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ondo State, Dr. Olubunmi Osadahun, was at the weekend, attacked in Arigidi Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government Area of the state.
Osadahun was said to have been hit with a chair on the head during the distribution of foodstuffs as palliatives aimed at supporting the vulnerable due to inflation caused by the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
The Commissioner was alleged to have been opposed by some members of the All-Progressive Congress (APC) in the local government following an allegation that the exercise was shrouded in secrecy by government officials.
While police authorities are yet to name those behind the attack, there are claims that the APC chairman in Akoko North West Ward 1, one Olumide Awolumate, popularly called “Cuba”, is behind it.
Due to injuries sustained during the attack, the Commissioner was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Some young men identified as loyalists of the Commissioner were said to have retaliated by beating Awolumate.
