President Bola Tinubu has approved the composition of Nigeria’s delegation to the US–Nigeria Security Working Group, a bilateral platform aimed at strengthening cooperation on counter-terrorism, defence reforms, and regional stability across West Africa.
The approval comes as both countries intensify efforts to address rising security threats, including terrorism, organised crime, illicit arms movement, and maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea.
According to a State House statement on Wednesday, the team will be led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and will include senior officials from the ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs, Interior, and other key security agencies.
Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s partnership with the United States remains critical to enhancing intelligence sharing, advancing military capability, and supporting ongoing stabilisation efforts in conflict-prone regions.
He expressed confidence that the working group will accelerate joint initiatives, boost training support, and improve strategic planning between the two nations.
The inaugural meeting of the working group is expected to focus on assessing current threats, reviewing progress on existing defence agreements, and proposing new areas of collaboration.
