Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to mangrove conservation and climate resilience, pledging sustained action to protect the state’s rich coastal ecosystems.
The governor made the commitment following the successful implementation of the UK PACT–FAO mangrove restoration and conservation project, which has enhanced environmental sustainability in affected communities.
Otu described mangrove forests as critical natural assets that help combat climate change, protect coastal areas from erosion, preserve biodiversity, and support the livelihoods of local populations.
According to him, the state government will continue to pursue policies and partnerships aimed at strengthening environmental protection and building resilience against the growing impacts of climate change.
He also highlighted the importance of community participation in conservation efforts, stressing that sustainable environmental management requires collaboration among government, development partners, and local residents.
The governor expressed optimism that ongoing investments in environmental sustainability would position Cross River as a leading model for climate action and ecological preservation in Nigeria.
