INEC RULES OUT SHIFTING 2027 ELECTIONS
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has said the commission has no plans to postpone or shift the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan’s position signals that INEC remains committed to conducting the elections as scheduled, amid public discussions and concerns surrounding preparations for the next electoral cycle.
The commission is responsible for organising and supervising elections across Nigeria, including the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly polls.
The INEC chairman’s assurance is expected to address speculation about a possible change to the election timetable and reassure political parties, candidates and voters about the commission’s preparations.
With the 2027 elections approaching, attention is expected to focus on INEC’s preparations, including voter registration, political party activities, logistics and the publication of the official election timetable.
