CBN HIGHLIGHTS FX REFORMS, BANK RECAPITALISATION, FINANCIAL INCLUSION
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has highlighted foreign exchange market reforms, banking sector recapitalisation and financial inclusion as key measures aimed at strengthening the country’s financial system and supporting sustainable economic growth.
The foreign exchange reforms are intended to improve the functioning of the currency market, enhance transparency and support more efficient access to foreign exchange for legitimate transactions.
The bank recapitalisation programme is another major component of the CBN’s efforts to strengthen the financial sector. By requiring banks to meet higher minimum capital requirements, the regulator aims to improve their capacity to support businesses, finance investment and withstand economic shocks.
Financial inclusion also remains a priority, with efforts focused on expanding access to banking and other financial services, particularly for underserved communities, small businesses and people who remain outside the formal financial system.
The CBN’s focus on these areas reflects the importance of a stable and accessible financial system in supporting investment, trade and economic activity.
However, the impact of the measures will depend on effective implementation, regulatory oversight and how well the reforms translate into improved access to finance for households and businesses.
