Niyi Akingunola, a candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused the Federal Government of violating procurement laws over the alleged rerouting of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Ondo State.

Akingunola raised concerns about the reported change to the highway’s route, questioning whether the process followed the relevant procurement regulations and established procedures.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major federal infrastructure project intended to connect coastal communities across several states. Its construction has generated public debate over project costs, route planning, land acquisition and environmental concerns.

The ADC candidate’s allegation has added to scrutiny of the project, particularly regarding transparency and compliance with the rules governing public infrastructure contracts.

However, the allegation does not in itself establish that procurement laws were breached. Further details about the reported rerouting and the Federal Government’s response would be needed to clarify the circumstances.
