Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its actions against the Osun State Government, describing the development as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic principles.
Makinde expressed concern over the freezing of Osun State Government accounts, alleging that the action was politically motivated and could undermine constitutional governance and the smooth administration of the state.
According to the governor, anti-corruption agencies must operate within the confines of the law and avoid actions that could create the impression of political interference or selective enforcement.
He warned that institutions responsible for enforcing the law should remain impartial and uphold due process in order to preserve public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.
Makinde also called on relevant authorities to resolve the matter through lawful means, stressing that disputes involving elected governments should be handled with fairness and respect for constitutional provisions.
The Oyo governor reaffirmed his support for the Osun State Government, urging democratic institutions to protect the rule of law and ensure that governance is not disrupted by actions capable of affecting the welfare of citizens.
He appealed to political leaders and stakeholders to prioritise peace, justice, and democratic values, insisting that the nation’s progress depends on strong institutions and respect for constitutional order.
