TINUBU YET TO REVEAL CONTENTS OF NATIONAL POLICING BILL — MOGHALU

The Presidency has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not determined the final contents of the proposed National Policing Bill, stressing that the legislation is still undergoing a broad consultative process before it is presented to the National Assembly.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Planning and Research, Nnadubem Moghalu, explained that the President’s role is to ensure that the bill reflects the aspirations of Nigerians and addresses the country’s security needs through an inclusive legislative process.
Moghalu, who also serves as Secretary of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, said the government has invited stakeholders, experts, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, and members of the public to submit memoranda and recommendations to shape the proposed law.
According to him, the National Policing Bill is expected to provide the operational framework for Nigeria’s emerging policing system by addressing issues such as recruitment, funding, training, accountability, command structure, and coordination between federal and state police services.
He stressed that no final decisions have been taken on the specific provisions of the bill, noting that the drafting process remains open to contributions from all interested Nigerians.
Moghalu added that the consultative approach is intended to produce a modern policing framework that strengthens security, promotes professionalism, safeguards human rights, and improves public confidence in law enforcement.
He assured Nigerians that once the consultation process is completed, the draft bill will be submitted to President Tinubu for consideration before it is forwarded to the National Assembly for legislative action.
