The management of the Dangote Refinery has disclosed that the facility is currently receiving only five crude oil cargoes out of the expected 15 shipments each month, raising concerns about the stability of feedstock supply for operations.
Chief Executive Officer of the refinery, David Bird, reportedly stated that the shortfall has compelled the company to source crude oil from international markets in order to maintain production levels and meet demand for refined petroleum products.
According to him, consistent access to adequate crude supply remains critical to the refinery’s ability to operate at optimal capacity and contribute to improved fuel availability in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
Industry stakeholders note that challenges affecting domestic crude allocation, logistics and contractual arrangements may be contributing to the supply gap. They emphasise that resolving such issues would be essential for maximising the refinery’s potential impact on energy security and economic growth.
Energy analysts also warn that reliance on imported crude could increase operational costs and influence product pricing, particularly in a volatile global oil market.
Officials say ongoing discussions with relevant authorities and partners are aimed at addressing the constraints and ensuring more reliable crude deliveries to the facility.
