INEC chair urges discipline ahead of Ekiti, Osun elections

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on electoral officials and stakeholders to uphold discipline, professionalism and integrity as preparations intensify for the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement, the INEC boss stressed that credible elections depend on strict adherence to electoral guidelines and ethical conduct by all participants involved in the process. He noted that maintaining transparency and fairness is essential for strengthening public confidence in democratic institutions.
The commission’s chairman also highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at improving electoral logistics, enhancing the deployment of technology and ensuring better coordination with security agencies to prevent disruptions during the polls.
In addition, he underscored the importance of staff welfare and training, stating that well-motivated personnel are crucial to the successful conduct of elections. He urged political parties, candidates and voters to play their roles responsibly by avoiding violence, misinformation and actions capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
Observers say the commission’s renewed emphasis on discipline reflects efforts to consolidate gains from recent electoral improvements while addressing challenges experienced in previous elections.
The governorship contests in Ekiti and Osun are expected to serve as key tests of electoral readiness as the country gradually approaches the 2027 general elections.
