APC will shock opposition after convention, says Basiru
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has expressed confidence that the party’s forthcoming national convention will strengthen internal unity and surprise critics who have predicted divisions within the ruling party.
Basiru stated that contrary to claims by opposition figures that the APC was heading toward an implosion, preparations for the convention had demonstrated growing cohesion among party leaders and members across the country.
He explained that the convention would provide a platform to consolidate reforms within the party, review its organisational structure, and reposition it ahead of future electoral contests. According to him, ongoing consultations among stakeholders have shown that the APC remains committed to maintaining stability and advancing its political agenda.
The APC scribe also dismissed what he described as “unfounded speculation” by opposition parties, insisting that the ruling party had the capacity to resolve internal disagreements through dialogue and established party mechanisms.
Basiru noted that the convention would focus on strengthening grassroots mobilisation, improving party discipline, and ensuring that elected officials remain aligned with the party’s manifesto and development objectives.
He added that the APC leadership was optimistic that the outcome of the convention would not only reinforce public confidence in the party but also position it strategically ahead of future elections.
While urging members to remain united, Basiru called on party supporters nationwide to participate actively in the convention process, describing it as a critical step toward sustaining the party’s dominance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
