Proud of You Always, Adeleke Tells Davido After Grammy Loss
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has publicly expressed pride in his nephew, Nigerian music star Davido, following the singer’s loss at the 68th Grammy Awards.
Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with fellow Nigerian artiste Omah Lay on the song “With You.” The category was highly competitive, featuring other notable African acts including Burna Boy with “Love,” Wizkid and Ayra Starr with “Gimme Dat,” as well as South African star Tyla with “Push 2 Start.” Tyla ultimately emerged winner, securing the award for the second consecutive year.
Reacting to the outcome, Governor Adeleke took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to show support for Davido. The governor shared a photo of the award-winning artiste and wrote a brief but emotional message: “Proud of you always @davido.”
The message quickly gained traction online, drawing praise from fans and supporters who commended the governor for standing by the singer despite the loss. Many also applauded Davido’s continued global recognition, noting that the nomination further underscores his impact on African music and his influence on the international stage.
Despite missing out on the Grammy win, Davido remains one of Africa’s most celebrated artistes, with multiple nominations over the years and a growing global fan base. Fans have described the governor’s message as a reminder that success is not only measured by awards, but by consistency, influence, and legacy.
