The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko Yakasai, has said former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar could play a decisive role in the 2027 general election by supporting and “anointing” Peter Obi as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tanko made the remark while speaking on the possibility of a united opposition ahead of the 2027 polls, noting that Atiku’s political influence and nationwide structure could significantly boost Obi’s chances if both leaders align under a single platform.
According to him, Peter Obi remains a strong and widely accepted figure among Nigerians, especially young voters, and could secure victory if backed by influential political stakeholders such as Atiku.
Tanko argued that the ADC presents a viable platform for an opposition coalition, stressing that what is needed to defeat the ruling party is unity, strategic leadership, and collective sacrifice among opposition figures.
He added that Atiku’s endorsement of Obi would signal a major shift in opposition politics and could galvanise support across different regions of the country.
The Obidient Movement coordinator also emphasised that Nigerians are increasingly focused on competence, credibility, and integrity, qualities he said Obi represents.
While neither Atiku nor Obi has officially declared intentions regarding the ADC platform, discussions around opposition realignment and coalition-building have continued to dominate political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections.
