As Governor Ademola Adeleke marks his third year in office, the Osun State chapters of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have presented sharply contrasting evaluations of his administration.
Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, represented by the partyโs Director of Media, Kola Olabisi, told journalists in Osogbo that residents were yet to feel the impact of the administration despite increased monthly federal allocations. He argued that the governor had prioritised eye-catching projects while neglecting core sectors such as education, health, agriculture, security, and transportation.
Lawal faulted the focus on โneedless and poorly constructed flyovers and substandard roads,โ adding that many projects were concentrated in Adelekeโs hometown, which he described as evidence of favouritism.
He said the near-year-long inactivity of local governments, the prolonged strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, and limited access to basic services reflected what he called โa drift toward systemic failure.โ The judiciary strike, he added, was particularly troubling given its significance as the last hope of ordinary citizens.
โThe three-year administration of Governor Adeleke has been disastrous for Osun State,โ Lawal said.
But PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, defended the governor, describing him as โone of the most transformative figuresโ in Osunโs political history. He praised Adelekeโs leadership style, saying it combined empathy, humility, and firm decision-making.
Bisi said Adeleke revived grassroots confidence in governance, restored dignity within the party, and strengthened its internal structures long before becoming governor. He highlighted achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, workersโ welfare, and local government reforms, arguing that the administration set a standard characterised by openness and commitment to public good.
โGovernor Adeleke is not just a public office holder; he is a movement,โ Bisi said, insisting that his leadership had redefined governance and reaffirmed the PDPโs identity as a party rooted in justice and development.
Adeleke was sworn in on November 27, 2022, after winning the July 16, 2022 governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
