The Federal Government has urged young Nigerian professionals to apply for the newly introduced National Health Fellows Programme designed to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the country.
Speaking during the programme launch in Abuja, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the initiative will deploy trained fellows to support primary health centres, improve data systems, and enhance community-level health services.
Pate explained that the move forms part of government efforts to address workforce shortages and improve access to essential care, particularly in underserved areas. He added that selected participants will receive specialised training and work directly with state and local health authorities.
The minister noted that the fellows will contribute to key areas such as maternal and child health, routine immunisation, disease surveillance and digital health reporting.
According to the ministry, applications are open to young graduates from medical and health-related fields, with successful candidates expected to commence deployment in 2026.
The government expressed optimism that the programme will build a new generation of healthcare leaders and accelerate progress toward universal health coverage nationwide.
