Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has said the Federal Government led by the All Progressives Congress has failed to deliver on the economy, security and other major sectors.
Aregbesola made the remarks on Tuesday in Osogbo, Osun State, during the official unveiling of the ADC. Addressing a large gathering of supporters, he predicted that the APC would be voted out in the 2027 general election, urging Nigerians to reject the ruling party.
He accused the government of neglecting national priorities and said its leadership had โlost divine backing,โ describing those in power as selfish and disconnected from public needs. Aregbesola also referenced alleged election manipulation by the APC, claiming Nigerians were now aware of such tactics.
The former Interior Minister, who recently led mobilisation efforts across the stateโs nine federal constituencies, encouraged party members to intensify grassroots engagement ahead of the polls. He further advised supporters to prioritise outreach to elderly women, stressing their influence at polling units.
Aregbesola recalled that he had earlier declared in a song that ADC members would celebrate victory at the Abere Government Secretariat after the election. Before the event, he also visited the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, during a courtesy call with party leaders.
In a statement by Oluwaseun Abosede, Chairman of the ADC Directorate of Media and Publicity in Osun, residents of Osogbo and neighbouring communities reportedly turned out in large numbers as the party concluded its federal constituency tour.
Reacting, Osun APC Director of Media, Kola Olabisi, dismissed Aregbesolaโs comments, questioning why he was criticising the same party that produced him as governor for eight years and minister for four. โHe is attacking himself,โ Olabisi said.
Aregbesola had earlier told Nigerians to embrace the ADC, promising that if elected into government, the party would end banditry and violent crimes. He made the remarks in Ilesa shortly after revalidating his membership.
