The United States Embassy in Lagos has clarified that the issuance of visas to foreign nationals is a privilege, not a right, amid reactions trailing the reported revocation of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka’s visa.
In a statement on Thursday, the embassy said every visa granted by the U.S. government remains subject to review and can be withdrawn at any time if circumstances change.
It added that the decision aligns with standard immigration policies designed to ensure compliance with U.S. laws and entry regulations.
The embassy, however, did not confirm or deny the specific details surrounding Soyinka’s case, stressing that visa matters are treated with confidentiality.
