Malami kicks against arrest call by Kebbi lawmakers

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has faulted calls by Kebbi State lawmakers in the National Assembly for his arrest and prosecution over allegations of fuelling political unrest in the state.
Malami described the demand as a misplaced priority and an act of politicising security issues, which he said he had already raised in his petition to the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
On September 10, Malami petitioned the National Security Adviser, DSS, and the police over what he called a plot to destabilise Kebbi State. He accused Governor Nasir Idris and other APC stakeholders of importing thugs and illegal arms into the North-West state.
However, Kebbi lawmakers, led by former governor Adamu Aliero, at a press conference on Friday evening, accused Malami himself of importing political thugs from Sokoto and neighbouring states to attack the APC state secretariat in Birnin Kebbi. The alleged attack triggered violent clashes between Malami’s supporters and other APC members.
The lawmakers dismissed Malami’s petition as baseless and politically motivated, claiming it was an attempt to undermine peace in Kebbi.
