Clarence Peters: “I Made Every Mistake My Father Made”

Renowned Nigerian music video director Clarence Peters has revealed that he forgave his father, Afro-juju legend Shina Peters, after coming to terms with the fact that he had repeated the same mistakes.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast, Peters shared a deeply personal moment of growth, saying he truly began his journey into adulthood around 2014/2015, when he came to that realization.
> “I made every single mistake my father made,” he admitted. “I’m just lucky that time and technology saved me from it being as catastrophic as his. The moment I realized that, I forgave him—even before we had a conversation.”
Clarence, 41, is the son of Shina Peters and veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwura. He recounted how his personal journey of reflection and forgiveness changed his outlook on life and family.
In past interviews, Clarence also opened up about his mother’s emotional struggle during her pregnancy. He revealed that Clarion once considered terminating the pregnancy but changed her mind after believing Clarence was the reincarnation of her late father, who died when she was just 11.
Earlier in 2025, during a conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Peters said:
> “I wanted to judge my dad for how he treated my mother, but I’m not in a position to.”
“I’ve tried not to be like him with women… but I’m not perfect.”
