Bayelsa Governor Urges LG Chairmen to Boost Agriculture for Food Security

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has charged the chairmen of the state’s eight local government areas to actively support his administration’s agricultural policies to improve food security, create jobs, and diversify the economy.

During a meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, Diri:

Reaffirmed his commitment to large-scale farming across Bayelsa.

Directed chairmen to establish personal and demonstration farms, particularly in vegetables, fruits, poultry, aquaculture, and crops with comparative advantage.

Encouraged collaboration with ministries such as Agriculture, Lands and Survey, Marine and Blue Economy, and Local Government Affairs.

Announced that fish terminals would be developed in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, starting in Bayelsa and expanding to all LGAs.

Made fishing compulsory for all LG chairmen, saying:

> “The next time I meet you, I want to hear about the farms that you own.”
