Wike Backs Edo Governor on Peter Obi Security Comments

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has supported Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s call for Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to obtain proper security clearance before visiting Edo State.
Governor Okpebholo had earlier stated that Obi’s last visit, during which he donated ₦15 million to a nursing school, was followed by unrest that resulted in the deaths of four people. He warned that Obi must notify the state in advance for his safety.
Wike endorsed the governor’s stance, stressing the importance of avoiding the politicization of security and emphasizing that advance notice helps prevent political violence. He criticized Obi’s campaign style, calling acts like serving food during visits as mere “political theatrics” and deceitful populism.
Wike added:
> “If you are coming, tell me, because I am here to protect you… Some people can harm anybody and then accuse the governor… Nigerians like people who play them.”
