ADC coalition full of people with presidential ambitions – Datti Baba-Ahmed

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, has said the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is dominated by politicians nursing presidential ambitions.
Speaking to Trust TV, Baba-Ahmed pointed out that the coalition includes figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, former Minister Rotimi Amaechi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and ex-Senate President David Mark, among others.
He argued that unlike APC in the past, which had leaders like Bola Tinubu who set aside their own ambitions to support candidates like Atiku in 2007 and Buhari in 2015, the ADC coalition lacks such a unifying figure.
According to him, while the coalition has options and resources, its many presidential ambitions could undermine it unless they are carefully managed.
Baba-Ahmed also noted he hasn’t yet seen a clear strategy from the coalition capable of defeating President Tinubu in 2027, emphasizing the need for fresh and unconventional tactics rather than “business as usual.”
He concluded by advising that the coalition should not present Atiku as its presidential candidate, warning that Tinubu and the APC already know how to beat him.
