Igbo Youths Give Tinubu Condition for Support

Igbo youths under the banner of the All Igbo Youth Forum have set a clear condition for supporting President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections: the unconditional release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The demand was made public during a press conference and solidarity gathering held at Awka Hall, Umuahia, which also served to celebrate Kanu’s recent legal victory in Kenya. The event drew over 600 youths from across the South-East states and later turned into a jubilant street march with chants of solidarity.
The move follows a ruling on June 26 by a Kenyan High Court in Nairobi, which declared Kanu’s abduction, detention, and forced transfer from Kenya to Nigeria in 2021 as “illegal, unconstitutional, and a gross violation of his fundamental human rights.” Justice E. C. Mwita, who delivered the verdict, held the Kenyan government and its security agencies responsible and awarded Kanu 10 million Kenyan shillings in damages.
Describing the ruling as “historic” and a confirmation of Kanu’s innocence, the youths called on President Tinubu to respond to long-standing appeals for Kanu’s release.
