ALGON Disowns Call for Wamakko as Tinubu’s Running Mate

The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has officially distanced itself from recent remarks suggesting support for Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as a potential running mate to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Sunday, the State ALGON Chairman and Executive Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal, clarified that the endorsement made by Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, Secretary of ALGON and Chairman of Kebbe LGA, was strictly a personal opinion.

> “Our dear colleague merely expressed his individual opinion. While he is entitled to it, it must be clearly stated that he was acting on his own,” Tambuwal stated.

ALGON further emphasized that Senator Wamakko, who currently represents Sokoto North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has not declared any intention to run for Vice President, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not opened discussions on the matter.
