Vice President Kashim Shettima’s position on the 2027 presidential ticket is reportedly under threat, as internal party dynamics within the All Progressives Congress (APC) signal a possible shake-up.

Sources within the Presidency and APC have revealed that President Bola Tinubu may be considering dropping Shettima as his running mate ahead of the 2027 elections. This development comes amid intensifying interest in the vice-presidency from six powerful northern politicians — four state governors (two each from the North-East and North-West) and two top lawmakers from the 10th National Assembly.

Party insiders suggest that the growing opposition to Shettima stems from recent criticisms of the Tinubu administration by his close allies — Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, and Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South. Both men are known to be strong loyalists of Shettima, and their dissent is said to be negatively affecting the VP’s standing within the party.

Additionally, sources say the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) is divided over whether Shettima should remain on the ticket, further fueling speculation about a potential change in Tinubu’s 2027 team.
