Nigeria sitting on keg of gunpowder – Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo warned that Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder due to the growing hardship faced by its citizens. Speaking at Dele Momodu’s leadership lecture, he emphasized that:
Leadership is central to solving poverty and hardship.
Education is a key tool to fight poverty: “Where there’s no education, invariably, there will be poverty.”
Nigeria has the potential to eradicate hunger and poverty with integrity, discipline, and good governance.
He drew a comparison with China, which lifted 700 million people out of poverty, saying Nigeria should have no excuse for remaining in abject poverty.
He stressed that the international community won’t take Africa seriously until it addresses poverty effectively.
