Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), is reportedly under growing pressure to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Kebbi State.

Sources confirm that a delegation of PDP stakeholders visited Malami at his residence on Tuesday, urging him to consider joining their ranks in a bid to strengthen the party’s position in the state.

This push comes in the wake of three influential PDP senators—Muhammad Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South)—defecting to the APC. Their defection was officially announced at the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday.

The senators’ move has stirred unrest within the APC, particularly in the camp of Governor Nasir Idris, who is said to be concerned about Malami’s increasing political engagements.

A source who attended the closed-door meeting with Malami described it as “strategic” and said the discussions lasted several hours. Malami’s recent meetings with political leaders, youth groups, and key stakeholders have fueled speculation about his potential ambitions.

“We’re looking for capable leaders to rebuild the state, and Malami is a strong contender who could shift the political balance if he joins us,” a PDP insider told Daily Post.

Malami has also reportedly been approached by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which is said to have offered him a direct governorship ticket as part of its 2027 election strategy.
