President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the 61st edition of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival in Kebbi State as the Special Guest of Honour, in what organisers describe as a significant boost to the globally recognised cultural event.

According to officials of the Kebbi State Government, the presidentโ€™s visit is expected to highlight the Federal Governmentโ€™s commitment to promoting tourism, cultural heritage and economic development across northern Nigeria. The Argungu Festival, renowned for its traditional fishing competition and colourful displays of Hausa-Fulani culture, attracts participants and tourists from within and outside the country.

State authorities noted that preparations for the festival are already underway, with security agencies and local organisers working together to ensure a safe and successful outing. The event is also expected to feature cultural parades, traditional wrestling, music performances and exhibitions aimed at showcasing Nigeriaโ€™s rich heritage.

Stakeholders believe Tinubuโ€™s presence could help reposition the festival as a major international tourism attraction while encouraging investment in local businesses and hospitality services in Kebbi State.

Residents and cultural enthusiasts have expressed excitement ahead of the celebration, describing the festival as an important symbol of unity, tradition and economic opportunity.
