Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has submitted a โ‚ฆ892 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year, outlining a strong push for development and growth.

In his presentation to the State House of Assembly, Makinde announced that โ‚ฆ502.65 billion would be channeled into capital expenditure, while โ‚ฆ389.34 billion is set aside for recurrent costs. This allocation reflects a strategic 60:40 emphasis in favor of long-term infrastructure and development projects.

Governor Makinde described the 2026 budget as the โ€œBudget of Economic Expansion,โ€ intended to convert the stability achieved in prior years into tangible opportunities. Key pillars of the proposal include infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture.

Breaking down the sectoral priorities:

Infrastructure is slated to receive โ‚ฆ210.03 billion, about 23% of the total budget.

Education will be allocated roughly โ‚ฆ155.21 billion, representing 17.4% of the budget.

Health is given โ‚ฆ70.87 billion (around 7.1%), while agriculture is allotted โ‚ฆ19.99 billion, about 2.24%.

Makinde expressed gratitude to the state legislature for its cooperation in previous budget cycles, noting that swift passage of earlier budgets has supported โ€œmassive infrastructural developmentโ€ across Oyo State.

Ahead of the presentation, the Oyo government held stakeholder engagement meetings across all seven geopolitical zones to gather input. The administration also encouraged further community input, especially from the Oke-Ogun zone, to ensure that the final appropriation aligns with residentsโ€™ needs.
