Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has vowed that justice will be served for seven women allegedly shot dead by soldiers during a protest in Lamurde Local Government Area.

Fintiri made the pledge on Tuesday while touring Lamurde and other communities affected by last Sundayโ€™s violent communal clash, just hours after returning to the country. He announced plans to set up a judicial panel of inquiry to probe the December 7 incident, describing the investigation as open, fair and thorough.

The violence reportedly erupted over a disputed parcel of land, leading to clashes between youths of the Bachama and Tsobo communities. Beyond the alleged shooting, additional deaths were said to have occurred during the unrest.

The governor said the Adamawa State Peace Commission was already engaging community leaders, youths and elders to de-escalate tensions and restore calm. He also assured victims and displaced persons of government support, including education and livelihood assistance, noting that SEMA and NEMA had commenced relief efforts.

Meanwhile, the District Head of Lamurde, Pwahomakai Joseph, called on the state government to take decisive steps to ensure lasting peace between the Bachama and Tsobo communities.
