The Federal Government has vowed to ensure the immediate and safe rescue of students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State after gunmen attacked the school, killing one official.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Monday, titled, โFG vows swift rescue of abducted Kebbi schoolgirls, reaffirms duty to protect citizens.โ
Idris said the government is deeply concerned about the victims, stressing that it shares in the pain of the families and is fully committed to ensuring the girls return home safely.
He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that safeguarding the lives of Nigerians, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State.
The minister condemned the attack, describing it as โreprehensible,โ and noted that security and intelligence agencies have been given clear directives to locate the abducted students.
โWe will not relent until these students are safely returned and the perpetrators face justice,โ Idris said.
He further noted that strengthening internal security remains a top priority for the Federal Government, with ongoing efforts to recalibrate military, policing, and intelligence systems for faster and more effective responses to threats.
Idris also highlighted increased collaboration with regional partners through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force to secure borders and dismantle terrorist networks.
He urged Nigerians to remain calm and confident as the rescue operations intensify.
